Boston starts Eduardo Rodriguez on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Rodriguez has a 5.43 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. Detroit bats .302 versus Rodriguez. The Tigers counter with potential hall of fame pitcher Justin Verlander. 

Verlander’s 3.42 ERA and 1.06 WHIP are both very good. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 earned runs in his last 8 starts. Verlander hasn’t pitched less than 6 innings in any of those last 8 starts. This includes allowing 1 run off of 5 hits versus the Red Sox in a 4 to 2 Detroit win on July 25. Verlander is on top of his game.

Even though that’s the case, Rodriguez hasn’t pitched badly in 4 out of his 5 last starts. In his last start, he allowed only 1 earned run off of 3 hits in 7 innings. I’m taking a shot on Rodriguez and the Red Sox to get the job done versus the hot Verlander on Sunday.
